Ultraviolet Reactor System Replacement - 5 Wing Goose Bay
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing a project to replace existing ultraviolet (UV) light water treatment system and provide required potable water for the DND at 5 Wing Goose Bay. As a water treatment technique, UV is an effective disinfectant due to its strong germicidal (inactivating) ability. UV disinfects water containing bacteria and viruses and is effective against protozoans like, Giardia cysts or Cryptosporidium oocysts.
Scope of project includes:
- Phasing of the work such that two of the three UV reactor systems shall be available for operation at any time during the construction. Any combination of existing and /or fully commissioned replacements are allowed to fulfill this requirement.
- Removal of the existing Tekleen automatic backwashing filters, control panels, and all associated wiring and piping.
- Removal of the existing R-Can UV reactor assemblies, control panels, and associated wiring and piping.
- Removal of the existing piping and valves as indicated and as required to complete work.
- Installation of new automatic backwashing filters, control panels, appurtenances, and all associated wiring and piping.
- Installation of new UV reactor vessels, flow conditioners, control panels, appurtenances, and all associated wiring and piping.
- Supply and installation of new valves, piping, and fittings as indicated and as required to complete work.
- Installation, testing, and commissioning of new systems and equipment, in a phased approach.
- Installation of new and modification of existing equipment supports as required.
