Construction of a Micro-Subdivision on Taykwa Tagamou Nation
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
The Proposed Project
Taykwa Tagamou Nation is proposing the construction of a micro-subdivision within the community, southwest of Takwata Drive. The subdivision will be constructed on undeveloped land/undisturbed forest and will consist of 23 residential lots with each lot's footprint measuring between 300 m2 to 450 m2 (estimated total area of 6900 m2 to 10,350 m2). Infrastructure required for this project includes watermain infrastructure (watermain, services, hydrants), sanitary infrastructure (sanitary maintenance holes, services and sanitary sewer lines), electrical infrastructure (hydro poles, overhead lines, street lighting), storm infrastructure (rip-rap, ditches, culverts, and road infrastructure (granular base and asphalt). No waste is anticipated to be generated as all excavated materials are to be re-used on site. Trees removed are to be processed for use by the community. Physical activities will include:
- Tree clearing and grubbing;
- Removal of topsoil, importing of granular fill (granular A and B fill as per OPSS standards) and re-grading;
- Excavation for underground infrastructure installation and road grading; And
- Extension of road to service new lots.
This project is a response to the on-reserve housing needs expressed by many Indigenous communities. Completion of this project will provide suitable lots intended for the eventual construction of new homes for Taykwa Tagamou Nation community members.
