Crawford Nickel Project

Canada Nickel Company is proposing the construction, operation, decommissioning and abandonment of an open-pit nickel-cobalt mine and on-site metal mill, located 42 kilometres north of Timmins, Ontario. As proposed, the Crawford Nickel Project would have a mine ore production capacity of 240,000 tonnes per day and a mill ore input capacity of 120,000 tonnes per day. The project would operate for about 41 years.

June 11, 2026 — The public comment period on the draft Impact Assessment Report and proposed conditions for the project closed on June 10, 2026. The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada is considering comments received in order to finalize the Impact Assessment Report that will be submitted to the Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature. Based on the final Impact Assessment Report, the Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature will issue to the proponent an impact assessment Decision Statement with reasons and enforceable conditions, should the project be allowed to proceed.
