Chapleau Cree First Nation Residential Lot Development on Margaret Ann Road

Lot development of 8 sites, including the extension of the community water main by 300 m to service proposed lots. Project works include lot-servicing activities such as, tree-clearing, removal of topsoil, grubbing, importing fill, re-grading, and installation of septic systems, propane, and electrical services.

2023-03-06 – The public comment period on the project is closed. Indigenous Services Canada issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was made based on the consideration of the following factors:

  • Lot development provides new housing for the community to accommodate the growing population;
  • Best Management Practices related to lot servicing and development will be implemented.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to lesson or avoid potential adverse effects to:

  • Air quality and noise;
  • Vegetation;
  • Surface water quality; and
  • Wildlife and habitat, including Species at Risk and Migratory Birds.

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
