Blackwater Gold Project — Additional Federal Funding Allocated to Support the Participation of Indigenous Groups in the Environmental Assessment
February 1, 2017 — The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) has allocated an additional $83,753 to seven Indigenous groups to assist their participation in the environmental assessment of the proposed Blackwater Gold Project, located in British Columbia.

The funding was made available through the Agency's Participant Funding Program. It will enable the participation of Indigenous groups in various steps of the environmental assessment, which includes reviewing and providing comments on the proponent's Environmental Impact Statement or on the summary thereof, the draft Environmental Assessment Report, and the potential environmental assessment conditions.

The Proposed Project
New Gold Inc. is proposing the construction and operation of an open pit gold and silver mine located approximately 110 kilometres southwest of Vanderhoof, British Columbia. As proposed, the project would produce 60,000 tonnes per day of gold and silver ore, over a mine life of 17 years.
