Construction of a Winter Maintenance Yard, Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden

February 3, 2020 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project Construction of a Winter Maintenance Yard, Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

Real Properties Operations Detachment Borden ( RP OPS) is planning to construct a winter maintenance yard south of the existing Building O-95 transport compound. The compound is anticipated to be 50 m X 80 m (4,000 m2) with a building footprint of 34 m X 40 m (1,360 m2). The area will be used for the storage and distribution of sand and salt reserves for snow and ice control.
