March 5, 2021 - Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Fond Du Lac Environmental Remediation is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

-the remediation will clean up the existing contamination identified in the Phase II environmental site assessment, and a Risk Assessment / Remedial Action Plan
-no comments were received from the public about the project
-mitigation measures are required for the project

Implementation of the following mitigation measures are required for the project:

-Sediment and erosion control measures are implemented as required
-refueling practices to minimize possibility of spills. All spills must be reported to relevant federal, provincial and municipal government departments
-impacted soil will be excavated and transported to a landfarm
-clean fill from local source will be utilized after removal of impacted soil
-Site access will be restricted to authorized workers only with adequate training
-DFO advice will be obtained where required
-In addition to these mitigation measures, please ensure that the project meets or exceeds all municipal, provincial and federal laws, codes, standards as applicable.

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
