Notice of determination for the Cote First Nation Main Landfill Decommissioning

May 7, 2021 - Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Cote First Nation Main Landfill Decommissioning is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  -the First Nation has participated on the project management team
  -review of Phase III ESA and remedial options
  -no comments were received from the public about the project
  -mitigation measures are required for the project

Implementation of the following mitigation measures is required for the project:

-refueling practices to minimize possibility of spills. All spills must be reported to relevant federal, provincial and municipal government departments
-groundwater will be monitored to ensure no off-site impacts
-Site will be fenced off, and access restricted to authorized workers only with adequate training.

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
