December 15, 2020 – The Fisheries and Oceans Canada must decide whether the proposed Search and Rescue Float Reconstruction, located in Tofino, B.C. is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
To help inform this decision, Fisheries and Oceans Canada is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

Project Summary:
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada is planning to reconstruct the existing aging treated timber float at the Tofino Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue station.  The proposed project involves a like for like reconstruction of the existing 21.4 m x 6.1 m treated timber float.  The reconstructed timber float will be within the same footprint as the existing float, reusing the existing mooring piles, mitigating the need for pile driving.

The site is located approximately 318 km northwest of Victoria in Tofino, BC.  The wharf is located in Tofino along Main Street.
