Heiltsuk Phase 3 Water System Upgrades – Public Comments Invited

August 18, 2021 – The Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Heiltsuk Phase 3 Water System Upgrades, located in Bella Bella, British Columbia is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, the Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

The proposed project includes decommissioning of two water reservoirs and replace them with one high elevation reservoir. Upgrade high lift pumps to serve the new water storage tank. Build a dedicated water supply main rom the water treatment plant to the new water storage tank. Construct a water main maintenance road and upgrade the access road to the water treatment plant. The project scope also includes upgrading aging chlorination and safety equipment. The sizes of the two reservoirs that will be decommissioned are 450 m3 and 900 m3. The size of the new reservoir is 1460 m3. The proposed supply main is 750 m and distribution main upgrades total 230 m.
