Public Comment Period on Intent to Make a Determination
New Building for Water, Fuel, and Environment Section - Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Halifax

November 1, 2021 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing to construct a new consolidated storage, office, and workshop building at Willow Park to accommodate the Real Property Operations Unit – Atlantic Section Halifax's Water, Fuel and Environment (WFE) Section. Willow Park is located off Windsor Street in the northern area of the Halifax peninsula. The new WFE building will be constructed on Quartermaster Road in the area of the former building. Construction of the new building will consolidate WFE functions. The project consists of constructing an approximately 581 building, which will be one storey on a slab, and include office space for all staff, lunch/meeting room, locker room, showers, technical library, testing lab, storage, workshop, space for a hazardous materials trailer, and supporting mechanical/electrical spaces.
