Notice of determination

November 18, 2021 – Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Naicatchewenin Watermain Replacement Project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • Community knowledge;
  • Comments received from federal authorities and contractors; and
  • Proposed mitigation measures.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address:

  • The land, resulting from vegetation clearing;
  • Fish and fish habitat, resulting from rock boring under the Footprint River;
  • Air and noise, resulting from equipment use;
  • Culturally and historically significant areas, although not anticipated to be in the project location; and
  • Creation of waste materials, resulting from construction activities.

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
