Notice of Determination

May 30, 2022 – Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Diesel Generating Station Upgrade project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • The project will allow an increase in electrical generating capacity, at the community, to address both the current and upcoming strain on capacity, as well as, the projected future growth of electrical power requirements including new anticipated community infrastructures.
  • The new structure with future control room will provide a viable upgrade path for the community needs well into the future as the existing assets reach the end of their service life.
  • Mitigation measures and best management practices will be implemented during construction to ensure the protection of the environment and safety of members of the community.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to lesson or avoid potential adverse effects to:

  • Human Health
  • Air quality and noise;
  • Vegetation; and
  • Wildlife and habitat, including Species at Risk and Migratory Birds.

Based on the consideration of these measures, Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
