Explosives Storage Area Fence Repairs at 9 Wing Gander, Canadian Forces Base Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador

July 11, 2022 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence is proposing to conduct repairs to the fence and fence area surrounding the explosives storage area at 9 Wing Gander. The repair activities will include removal of approximately 680 metres of existing fencing and associated accessories, including mesh fabric, poles, and barbed wire strands; removal of approximately 4,145 m2 of vegetation; site preparation, including excavation, drilling, trenching, and/or backfilling and grading required for placement of new fence posts and fencing; installation of corrugated metal pipes; installation of galvanized steel chain-link security fencing system, including all concrete foundation piers and related supporting infrastructure, 2.135 metres high by 680 linear metres; installation of approximately 4,145 m2 of textile fabric, and granular material; and general site restoration and cleanup.
