The Proposed Project

Install a lightning protection system, consisting of rooftop aerials, external down conductors, and an exterior ground loop. Rooftop air terminals will be installed at the high points of the building, with a rooftop grounding loop. Metal protuberances on the roof, such as antennae and exhaust fans, will be bonded to the loop. Down conductors will be installed on the exterior of the building, at the corners of the building. These down conductors will be fastened to the siding and installed in the least obtrusive method possible. A ground loop will be installed at least 1m from the building, around the perimeter. The ground loop will be connected to the down conductors, and to the building grounding system. Ground rods or ground plates will be installed at intervals around the ground loop, and at each down conductor. When excavating for the ground loop, care must be taken to avoid damaging incoming services, such as power conductors and water lines.
