Resurfacing and Rehabilitation of Runway 15-33 – 5 Wing Goose Bay

February 8, 2023 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project. The rehabilitation of Runway 15-33 will be completed by 2025 and will involve milling and replacing the existing asphalt over the entire runway surface. The work will involve milling to a thickness of 80 millimeters for the entire area of Runway 15-33. The total estimated quantity of asphalt would be 32,520 tonnes and the estimated quantity of millings to be stockpiled on site would be 13,550. Once the milling is complete, new asphalt will be over-layed on the surface with a thickness of approximately 100 millimeters.
