Cultural space, multi-purpose building  – Public Comments Invited

April 5th, 2023Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) must determine whether the proposed Cultural space, multi-purpose building, located in Kahnawà:ke, QC is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

The Proposed Project

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke plans to build a multi-purpose arts and cultural centre and theatre.  The building will be located between the Suzanne River and the Kahnawà:ke Survival School along Highway 132. The 15,750 square foot facility will be located on three acres of land and will be designed using sustainable technologies. The Kanien'kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitióhkwa Language and Cultural Centre includes an administrative area, a media production area, a resource area and classrooms and workshops. The theatre, includes public spaces, the auditorium and stage, backstage and technical space.
