The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project. This includes the National Support Element Warehouse, Road Upgrades, Sending Nation Marshalling Compound Moves, Spanish Compound Expansion, Battle Group Warehouse, Accommodation buildings, Temporary Deployment Magazine, Tank Barn and Semi-Permanent Tank Maintenance Facility construction projects.

The National Support Element Warehouse, Road upgrades, Battle Group warehouse, Accommodation buildings, and Tank Barn are permanent construction projects. In accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding with Latvia, permanent construction is considered to be the property of the Latvian Ministry of Defence upon completion of construction and will become responsible for the operation and maintenance of these facilities.

Semi-permanent construction, including the Spanish Compound Expansion, Area E & S compounds, Tank Maintenance Facility, and Temporary Deployment Magazine, have an anticipated life of approximately 5-10 years. Operation and maintenance of these sites are a Task Force Latvia responsibility and will be handed back to the Host Nation at their end of life.
