The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has determined a requirement to repair or replace sections of the existing security fence at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador. CFB Gander is situated on land leased from Transport Canada under management of the Gander International Airport Authority. The work requirements are anticipated to include brush cutting along both sides of the fence line, which may or may not require tree removal, demolition of approximately 132 meters of existing fence line and installation of approximately 323 meters of new fence line. The security fence line runs the perimeter of the DND leased area around developed areas and through or adjacent to wooded or wetland areas. Proposed work may temporarily disturb wetlands as brush cutting or fence repairs may be required in or adjacent to existing identified wetlands, loss of wetland function is not anticipated.
