ATCO Gas and Pipelines Ltd.: 1088866 Wabasca IR No. 166A Gas Distribution Extension – Public Comments Invited

September 26, 2023 – Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed ATCO Gas and Pipelines Ltd.: 1088866 Wabasca IR No. 166A Gas Distribution Extension located at Bigstone Cree First Nation is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

ATCO Gas and Pipelines Ltd. proposes to expand its natural gas main and feeder lines at Bigstone Cree Nation's Wabasca IR No. 166A. A biophysical assessment of the project area and surrounding lands identified a variety of valued ecosystems components which have influenced construction practices and necessitate the use of proponent-developed environmental work practices. Project planning has included the development of environmental management plans to avoid and mitigate negative environmental impacts, and to monitoring construction activities in accordance with plans approved by Bigstone Cree Nation.
