Cumberland House Cree Nation Fire Hall & Equipment - Public Comments invited

December 15, 2023 - Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Cumberland House Cree Nation Fire Hall & Equipment, to be located on Cumberland House Cree Nation, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

Proposed Project

Cumberland House Cree Nation is proposing the construction of a new fire hall. The proposed development is a 14.3 meter x 18 meter three-bay fire hall building to house the Cumberland House Cree Nation's fire trucks and fire fighting equipment. The building will be serviced with water and sewer from nearby existing mains. Roadway approach construction and parking lot are included. Total site area is approximately 40 meters x 50 meters.

The proposed project activities include clearing and grubbing of existing trees, topsoil stripping over site area, installation of underground services, installation of screw piles, construction of perimeter grade beam foundation and concrete slabs, framing of building, installation of exterior masonry and metal roofing and interior finishes.

Waste debris and material associated with the project will be hauled to the nearest permitted disposal site. The proposed project site is located within 130 m from the nearest residence.
