Sturgeon Weir Solid Waste Transfer Station - Public Comments invited
February 5, 2024 - Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Sturgeon Weir Solid Waste Transfer Station, to be located on Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

Proposed Project
The Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Sturgeon Weir IR No. 205 Sturgeon Landing (Nahmehw Sipi) is proposing to construct a new solid waste transfer station on the site of the existing community landfill located 34 km west of Manitoba Highway No. 10, within Saskatchewan Northern Administration District Crown land administered by the Ministry of Agriculture. The site is approximately 150 m by 150 m with an access road about 120 m by 20 m having a total area of 2.501 hectares.
The proposed project activities work entails cleanup, excavation and removal of the existing waste and contaminated soil for disposal at an approved location and the development of a waste transfer station with three roll off bins and one shipping container for hazardous materials. One roll off bin will be designated for white metals, a sea can for hazardous products, and two roll-off bins will be designated for waste. Directional signage, fence and gates, upgraded road, drainage and construction of grade separated pads are included
