Star-Orion South Diamond Project – Availability of $20,000 to Participate in the Environmental Assessment

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is making available $20,000 under its Participant Funding Program to assist groups and individuals to participate in the environmental assessment of the Star-Orion Diamond Project in Saskatchewan.

Shore Gold Inc. is proposing to construct, operate, maintain and eventually decommission an open-pit diamond mine, processing facilities and associated infrastructure. The project would be located in the Fort à la Corne Provincial Forest, approximately 60 km east of Prince Albert.

To receive funding, successful applicants must participate in the environmental assessment of the project. This funding is intended for activities that will follow the public consultation currently underway on the scope of the project.

A funding review committee, independent of the environmental assessment process, will consider all applications and make recommendations on the allocation of funds. Applications received by the Agency by May 31, 2010 will be considered.

Information on the program, including the Participant Funding Program Guide, the application form and the contribution agreement, is available at www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca. Information on the proposed project is also available on the Agency’s Web site in the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry, under reference number 09-03-46277.
