Environmental Assessment Decision - Town of Shelburne Long-Term Well Project

April 30, 2014 — Ottawa — Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency

Canada's Environment Minister, the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, announced today that the proposed Town of Shelburne Long-Term Well Project, located in Ontario, is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects when the mitigation measures described in the Comprehensive Study Report are taken into account. The Minister has referred the project back to the responsible authority, Infrastructure Canada, for appropriate action.

In reaching her decision, the Minister considered the Comprehensive Study Report and the comments received from the public and Aboriginal groups on the report.

This project was assessed using a science-based approach in accordance with the former Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.

Quick Facts

  • The Town of Shelburne will develop a new water supply production well, located approximately three kilometres west of the Town of Shelburne, to provide additional drinking water to the town. The proposed water main route is approximately four kilometres in length and follows 2nd Line Southwest to Provincial Highway 89, then proceeds eastward along Highway 89 before connecting with the Town of Shelburne's existing water supply system.
