Good Morning Lindsey

The Town of St. Anthony has reviewed the ongoing information concerning research and development of Offshore Wind projects in Newfoundland and Labrador.  The Committee responsible has decided not to proceed with any research for potential wind development along the north and north east coast of NL for various reasons, primarily ice berg concentration.

The Town of St. Anthony wishes to encourage the Regional Assessment of Offshore Wind Development in Newfoundland and Labrador Committee to reinstate the Northern Peninsula and North East Coast in it research for possible locations for Offshore Wind Projects under the following conditions:

  1. Fishery activity must be considered and public consultations with fisher persons to take place in the area.
  2. Recognizing Iceberg activity is vital but should not be a reason not to include it in the study.
  3. The information gathered through these studies would be valuable to future development and when solutions to natural hazards can be addressed the work would be completed.
  4. Make the whole province feel as though its included in all economic activities.
  5. More information we can provide to developers the better chance the GNP has of attracting investment.

To discuss our position further, we encourage you to reach out to our Council at your convenience.

 Best regards

Brad Johannessen
