Alberta’s electricity sector is rapidly undergoing transformation, most notably influenced by the drive toward net-zero emissions and the demands of the increased electrification of other sectors of the economy.

Electricity costs have been a significant growing concern for the business community based on research conducted by our network. Findings from May of 2023 indicate that nearly nine-in-ten business leaders believe that it is important to pursue all options to increase market competition in the supply of electricity to reduce the cost to their organization.

Access to affordable and reliable power is crucial to support continued investment in our province. The price of electricity needs to enhance, not detract from, our ability to compete globally and attract investment.

In light of the need to improve reliability and affordability while also meeting growing consumption, projects such as the Moraine Power Generation Project are worthy of robust consideration.
