Where to start. I am from George River. I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed rare earth mining project in Nunavik, particularly its potential to become one of the dirtiest mining operations globally and its alarming threat to Nunavik. My great grandfather played a pivotal role in establishing Pyramid Camp along the river, creating a legacy that has been cherished by dozens for generations; not for it to be negatively impacted by this. Any disruption to this delicate balance poses a severe threat not only to the environment but also to the cultural heritage that has been woven into the fabric of Inuit history. We all understand the importance of economic development and such, but it is crucial that such development is sustainable and respectful to the unique ecosystems that sustain life. The potential irreversible damage to this and its surroundings should not be overlooked in the pursuit of profit. There is soooo many alternative, environmentally responsible ways to harness economic benefits without compromising the ecological integrity of this pristine region. There’s so much that will be affected. Generations of Kangiqsualujjuaq and surrounding areas, wildlife, FISH and so much more. Consider the long-term consequences of this rare earth mining project. Disturbing.
