Hi Folks,

Long overdue in my opinion. My first flights into the current Nain(CYDP) airstrip werein 1992 .There are many operators and Pilots I believe who would share the same vision. My first views was that it was a scenic area with much potential for development.ie:Mining-Voisey Bay  and the Beautiful Torngat Regions, multiple bays and islands, hunting and fishing  at weekend getaways.

My Pilot lense saw something quite different as it was a very short airstrip with obstacles on,arrival(Water on one end and Hils on the other) landing and departures and all within uncontrolled airspace.ie:My first Chief Pilot said to me"Never a left turn after departure when departing on westward until above the hills"The climb out thru the valley while overflying the town of Nain using the updraft for climb performance during the warmer summer days with the prevailing winds is and probably still quite common and I never did make a Left turn until they the valley and over the hills. These visual type departures still do require obstacle clearance and single engine climb performance for multi engine success. With the new airport these departure restrictions  should be non existant for the most part as obstacles will be limited.Controlled airspace(ADS-B ) is now becoming a norm in Northern Areas and this a safety factor as well for operations that will aid in any new development .

also,If I read correctly there is no current planning being initiated for ground deicing. In my view this is a must as all aircraft are currently required to be driver/anti iced with certain criteria.Ie: so now or ice on the critical surfaces and depending what type of ice,the complete fuselage as well. From a 24/7 operations view this is a must to be planned as all operators are required to have this in their operations, otherwise there is no departure. The recovery of used drive guilds are also prevelent in most areas now

Thanks  for having open comments and good luck.Hope to land there some day.

Keith
