Canadian Coast Guard new Logistics Depot to be located in Port Hardy, BC

The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) Search and Rescue (SAR) carried out at the Port Hardy station is a vital component of the overall regional CCG SAR program.  Consolidation of a new SAR Station in Port Hardy will optimize facility infrastructure to support the continued delivery of CCG SAR activities in Port Hardy.

The site's existing aging structures will be replaced with a new larger structure and will be comprised a dedicated administrative space, warehouse storage for environmental response equipment, accommodations and classroom/training space capable of hosting an Incident Command Post (ICP).

The workshop/warehouse has space to accommodate all of the Port Hardy Environmental Response operational equipment which may include: pumps, spill booms, and spargers. There is a boat maintenance bay as well as separate CCG Electronics workshop. 

The building will be comprised of a timber frame structure on a slab on grade concrete foundation with perimeter concrete footing.  Cladding will be a mixture of steel and wood siding.  Roof is a sloping standing seam metal roof over half the building and a flat membrane roof over the other half.

August 24, 2020 – The public comment period on the project and its potential for causing adverse effects is closed. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada is considering comments received to inform its determination on whether the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. .
