June 15, 2022 – The Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Dzawada'enuxw Generator and Distribution System Upgrades, located in Kingcome Inlet, British Columbia is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
To help inform this determination, the Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project
The Dzawada_'enux_w First Nation intends to procure services to complete upgrades of an existing 3-phase 2.4/4.16 kV overhead electric distribution system at the Community of Gwa'yi (Kingcome Village). The work will include brush and tree clearing within 5 m of the powerline right of way, removal of deteriorated power poles and transformers, and installation of new power poles and transformers. The project also includes replacement of the generators and switch gear inside the existing generator powerhouse.
July 19, 2022 – Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Dzawada'enuxw Generator and Distribution System Upgrades is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
The determination was based on the following factors:
The proposed project will replace aging infrastructure assets enhancing the resilience of the community infrastructure.
No comments were received from the public about the project.
Mitigation measures required for the project will be implemented through the Environmental Management Plan.
