The Elders Lodge at Aroland First Nation

Aroland First Nation is proposing to build an Elder Lodge on developed land located within Aroland First Nation reserve land. The project proposes to be a single storey, wood frame structure covering a total of 2,133 m2. The entire project area is 11,025 m2.
Project works include:
- Grubbing: 11,025 m2
- Clearing of vegetation: 0 m2
- Topsoil stripping: 3,070 m2
- Excavation: 3,540 m3
- Foundation backfill and grading: 755 m3
- Space devoted to parking lots and sidewalks: 935 m2
The project will not include vegetation clearing or any works in or near water. Proposed building site and conceptual design is subject to change according to the results of technical field surveys/investigations as well as the detailed engineering process. Technical field surveys/investigations include, but are not limited to, topographic survey, geotechnical investigation, and environmental site assessment(s).

March 30, 2023 - Infrastructure Canada has determined the proposed The Elders Lodge at Aroland First Nation (the Project) is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:
- Impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
- relevant potential environmental effects;
- comments received from the public; and
- technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.
Mitigation and monitoring measures taken into account for this determination included active and adaptive management measures that would be implemented for the protection of the local environment. Based on the consideration of these measures, Infrastructure Canada is satisfied that the carrying out of the Project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
Therefore, Infrastructure Canada may carry out the Project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the Project to be carried out in whole or in part. .
