Replacement of the Very high-frequency Omni-directional range (VOR) at Val d'Or airport (YVO).

In order to limit risks of interruptions of GPS services, NAVCanada desire to modernize its Very high-frequency Omni-directional range (VOR) at Val d'Or airport (YVO). A new Doppler VOR (DVOR) with an order of magnitude less susceptible to accuracy errors caused by other structures will be installed. To ensure service continuity in the event of commercial electrical power outage, the new Doppler VOR will be equipped with emergency power systems.

The project consist of replacing the old building and antenna structure with a new installation for the DVOR. The current Val d'Or VOR facility is located approximately 14 km north of the airport, in a field just south of Chemin Leblanc, approximately 2 km east of its intersection with Road 111 (N48.17527 W77.82028).

The scope of work includes the following activitie=s:

  • Procurement of DVOR transmitters, antenna systems (including counterpoises), spare components, ancillary equipment and materials and equipment shelters
  • Procurement of emergency power supply equipment;
  • Replacement of old building and structure with the new ones;
  • Installation and test of each DVOR system;
  • Flight calibration to certify each DVOR for operational use.
