Mont Sorcier Mining Project

Voyager Metals Inc. is proposing the construction, operation, decommissioning, and closure of a high-purity iron open-pit mine. The project is located in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay Territory, approximately 20 kilometres northeast of the town of Chibougamau, Quebec, within traditional Cree territory. The Mont Sorcier Mining Project would include an open pit, storage areas for waste rock, tailings, and ore, and two ore-processing plants with a combined capacity of 8 million tonnes per year. The proponent also plans to build a 49-kilometre railroad that would connect to the existing rail network to transport the concentrate by train to the Port of Saguenay, where it would be stored prior to export. The mine's production capacity would be about 33.5 million tonnes per year (an average rate of 95,000 tonnes per day). The estimated life of the project would be 20 years.
