Petit-Gaspé Bridge embankment riprap rehabilitation

Parks Canada is planning to carry out corrective work on the Petit-Gaspé Bridge embankments to ensure the stability and long-term durability of the infrastructure. The riprap installed during previous work completed in 2017 has undergone progressive erosion, particularly as a result of hydrological flooding and winter storms, causing some of the material to be displaced into the watercourse bed. Following a technical inspection carried out in 2025, recommendations were made to restore the riprap protection and raise the bridge abutments. The proposed work would involve operating from the bank using machinery in order to: partially remove the existing riprap and accumulated driftwood; inspect, repair or locally replace the underlying geotextile; place new riprap made up of large stone (300 to 800 mm), in accordance with current standards, on the bay side.
