Revitalization of the Newport Fishing Harbour - Gaspésie, Québec

The harbour revitalization project is divided into four components, which will be the focus of the impact assessment.


Component 1 will increase the harbour's mooring capacity by constructing a new wharf in the beach area - west of the coastal wharf (#402).

In addition to this work, the project will require dredging to provide sufficient depth in front of the new wharf (component 2) and on the east side of wharf #402.

At the same time, component 3 will include the construction of a dike to create a service area on the east side of the coastal wharf (#402).

Finally, component 4 will consist of the demolition of the Coastal Wharf (#402) and its reconstruction slightly east of it.

April 27 , 2023 - Transport Canada (TC), Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Fish and Fish Habitat Protection Program (DFO-FFHPP) and Small Craft Harbours (DFO-SCH) and Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Small Craft Harbours (DFO-SCH) intend to determine whether this project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To assist them in this process, TC, DFO-FFHPP and DFO-SCH invite the public to submit any comment on this matter.
