Skinners Pond Small Craft Harbour Wharf Reconstruction

Skinners Pond Harbour is located at the mouth of the Skinners Pond estuary. Wharf structure #411/412 is a timber pile wharf structure with a bridge span incorporated into the design to provide (limited) navigational passage between the harbour basin and the estuary. The bridge opening is approximately 4 meters wide by 3 meters in height, however it is deteriorating in condition and has weight restrictions in place to limit its use. Wharf structure 411/412 is also deteriorating in condition and requires significant
maintenance. In order to address these safety concerns, and considering the limited navigation in the estuary, Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Small Craft Harbours (DFO-SCH) is proposing to completely rebuild structure 411/412 with an open face timber pile wharf, however the bridge span will not be replaced. The new wharf will be constructed within the current footprint of the existing wharf and there is no excavation anticipated during project activities. The open design will continue to allow for the passage of marine species between the basin and the estuary, however vessel navigation under the structure will essentially be cut off. DFO-SCH will provide access to the estuary from the west side of the new wharf structure.
