Service Area Improvements and Floating Wharves Replacement, Skinners Cove Small Craft Harbour, Pictou County, NS

The Small Craft Harbours Branch of Fisheries and Oceans Canada proposes to undertake a service area improvement and floating wharves replacement project at Skinners Cove Harbour, located in Skinners Cove in Pictou County, Nova Scotia. The project will consist of the use of heavy equipment such as excavators and haul trucks working from the shore. The proposed project involves the like for like replacement of the four (4) floating wharves (3 m x 18 m each) currently present at the harbour. The associated strong arms and gangways will also be replaced as a component of this project. The three (3) concrete abutments supporting the wharves are starting to pull away from their base, toward the harbour basin, and are becoming unsafe. The proposed work also includes replacing these abutments with a 60 m long reinforced concrete retaining wall with a base footing set at +1.3 m above low normal tide. The existing rip rap shore protection will be temporarily removed to construct the new retaining wall and then re-established following construction reusing the existing material as well as additional rock as required.
