Levesque Wharf Rebuild - Public Comments Invited

The proposed project entails the replacement and expansion of an existing wharf at 21 Partridge Lane, Bedford Nova Scotia. The existing structure is 3 m wide x 6. 1 m long and supported by a single timber crib. The proposed replacement structure will be 3.7m wide x 9.1 m long, supported by 11 new timber piles, plus a ramp and floating dock section.  In total, the proposed structures will extend 24.4 m out from the shoreline.

Work will be completed from mainly a crane on a barge with pile driving completed at low tide to assist in minimizing potential impacts to shoreline and marine habitats. The project is anticipated to take place during August-September 2023.

Halifax, Nova Scotia – July 8, 2023 – The Halifax Port Authority (HPA) has determined that the proposed Levesque Wharf Rebuild is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on the rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are:

  • all measures outlined in the DFO Letter of Advice - File #23-HMAR-00013
  • the implementation of all Transport Canada navigational safety requirements outlined for Docks and Boathouses - Minor Works.

The HPA is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Therefore, the HPA may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
