The Proposed Project

The Canadian Wildlife Service is proposing to construct a basic wildlife research station on Country Island, Nova Scotia to facilitate ongoing wildlife monitoring and research programs. The existing monitoring and research program relies on a seasonal / temporary base camp to support long-term wildlife research and monitoring.

The scope of this project includes minor sub-grading within the footprint of a decommissioned light station. Two small, single storey structures consisting of an approximate 300 square feet sleeping quarters and a 200 square foot office, will be installed within the existing base camp footprint. Both structures will be assembled in modular units off-site and transported to the island for installation. All proposed activities will occur during periods of the year which are not sensitive for migratory bird migration, breeding and / or staging activities.
