Construction of a Fire Fighting Training School Facility, DFO-CCG Westmount, Nova Scotia

The proposed project will include the construction of a fire fighting training school at the DFO-Canadian Coast Guard College (DFO-CCGC) in Westmount, Nova Scotia, to satisfy the firefighting training requirements.  Custom pre-built fire simulator container buildings will be delivered and installed over proposed new concrete pads.  Water used during training will be captured in an proposed underground tank and used again for subsequent training sessions. An above ground propane tank will be installed to supply the approved training burners inside the simulators through an accessible trenched-in supply line.  Site preparation such as removal of trees, leveling of ground and bringing services to the structure will be required. The final result will see the DFO-CCGC able to train individuals in firefighting according to TC requirement for sea going personnel at their own location in Westmount, NS, as part of the Marine Emergency Duties (MED) certification process.

Notice of Intent to Make a Determination – Start of Public Comment Period

August 16, 2024 – Fisheries and Oceans Canada- Real Property, Safety and Security (DFO-RPSS) intend to make a determination regarding whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, DFO-RPSS is inviting public comments until September 16, 2024 respecting that determination.
