Ballast Material Removal and Wharf Improvements Drum Head Small Craft Harbour, Guysborough County, NS

The proposed project will involve the removal of ballast material constituting the remains of an old crib work wharf located at Drum Head, SCH in Guysborough County, NS. This material will be reused to provide additional rock protection along the south side of the existing wharf located on the south end of the harbour.

Ballast material will be removed from the old wharf location using haul trucks and heavy machinery such as excavators which will work off the shoreline as well as the old structure itself. This material will be transferred to the existing wharf, structure #401, and placed on the southern side as additional protection which will connect the existing rock protection to the shoreline. The ballast material will be topped with amour stone in parallel with the existing wharf.

March 10th, 2022 – The public comment period on the project is closed. Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Small Craft Harbours is considering comments received to date to inform its determination on whether carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
