Containment Cell Construction at Pleasant Bay, Small Craft Harbour, Inverness, N.S.

The Proposed project at Pleasant Bay Small Craft Harbour in Inverness County, NS includes the construction of a containment cell that will be used to manage dredge material originating from maintenance dredge activities conducted at the harbour required to maintain safe navigation within the channel and harbour basin. The containment cell will be constructed on the east side of the harbour property along the eastern bank of the Grande Anse River.  A rock berm will be constructed connecting the two points of land located near the mouth of the harbour to create a basin within which dredge material will be placed during dredge activities. The berm used to create the containment cell will consist of a layer of core stone, over topped with filter stone, followed by a layer of armour stone.  The berm will have a seaward and leeward slope of 1.5:1.  The overall footprint of the containment cell will be approximately 13,700 m2. The containment cell construction will consist of the use of heavy equipment such as excavators and haul trucks working from the shore and berm as it is being constructed.
