Removal of Mooring Dolphins - Marine Atlantic Terminal, North Sydney, NS

The project involves the removal of two (2) dolphin structures at the terminal facility in North Sydney, NS. The structures were built in 1965 and currently serve no purpose for Marine Atlantic's current operations. The structures measure approximately 12mx 12m each and are concrete caisson/crib construction, with 9 cells per caisson (the cells are rock filled).

NOTICE OF DETERMINATION

2023-05-17 – Transport Canada has determined that the proposed project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. 

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Transport Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Transport Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
