Construction of a waterfront wharf at Pointe-Basse Harbour in Magdalen Islands
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
The fishing harbour of Pointe-Basse, owned by Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Small Craft Harbours Branch (SCH), is located in the Magdalen Islands.
Due to the age of the spur wharf, this structure is very deteriorated, with a residual carrying capacity which only allows it to accommodate the small vessels of the fleet present in this harbour. This situation can cause danger for users or cause damage to vessels moored at the wharf. Additionally, with the increasing size of fishing vessels, the harbor is finding it increasingly difficult to accommodate the entire resident fleet. In order to provide greater mooring capacity to users, the configuration of facilities in the spur wharf area will be modified by the addition of a waterfront wharf that will extend to the launching ramp.
At the other end of the harbor, the line of floating docks on guide piles is nearing the end of its useful life. To accommodate the fleet, a reconstruction with a wharf is planned to provide adequate workspace for users.
The area created behind the new waterfront wharf will be backfilled in to create a service area.
The project includes the completion of the following works :
- Demolition of the spur wharf and the line of floating docks on guide piles
- Construction of new wharves
- Construction of a service area behind the new waterfront wharf
- Dredging of sediments to provide a safe water depth for access to the new wharfs.
- Repair of the surface of a section of wharf 401
