Crawleys Creek Sanitary Force Main Crossing Relocation, DFO - Canadian Coast Guard College (DFRP# 03759), Westmount, Cape Breton County, NS

The proposed project will include the relocation of the existing sanitary forcemain for the DFO-Canadian Coast Guard College in Westmount, Nova Scotia. The current forcemain is suspended from the underneath of the Crawleys Creek pedestrian bridge,  which is due for repairs considering its unstable condition.  The proposed project will include the trenching and subsequent burying of the new forcemain in the creek bed, crossing south of the existing pedestrian bridge and reconnecting to the existing forcemain lines located on either side of the creek.  In order to trench and bury the proposed forcemain, the successful contractor will work from a floating platform barge, use a long-stick excavator from either shore, or construct temporary access roads into the edges of Crawleys Creek.  If temporary roadways are proposed, they will be constructed of provincially approved stone material and will be completely removed upon completion.  Excavated material for the trench will be temporarily side casted, pipe bedding sands and gravels will be imported to the trench, the forcemain will be installed, and the trench will be backfilled with as much of the excavated material as possible.  If required, additional materials will be removed from site and disposed of appropriately.
