Sluiceway Canal Cleaning

The sluiceway between Grand Étang Pond and Louisbourg Harbour is blocked with beach cobble. The Pond, located slightly above sea level, is tidal influenced. Recent storm activities have resulted in sluiceway infilling. Fish populations are known to reside and travel through this subject corridor. This includes the American eel, a COSEWIC-listed species that is important for Indigenous people.

A backhoe will be used to clear obstructing debris along this 40m stretch. Once removed, natural flows are expected to return. DFO experts have been contacted.
