Georgetown Small Craft Harbour Wharf Re-construction and Service Area Creation

Marginal wharf structure #402/403 at the Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Small Craft Harbour (DFO-SCH) facility in Georgetown is a timber pile/timber crib structure with a closed timber face and timber deck that is deteriorating in condition and therefore requires improvements. DFO-SCH is proposing to completely remove structure #402/403 and replace it with a Steel Sheet Pile wharf structure. The replacement wharf will be widened slightly on both sides to align with the existing structures #409 and #404.

To accommodate the new wharf, excess sediment immediately in and adjacent to the old wharf footprint will be excavated to the proper grade. This excavated sediment will be re-used on site in the creation of a new service area to be constructed along the base of the bank and beach in the northeast portion of the harbour property. The service area will extend to the approximate Low Normal Tide mark. The walls of the service area will be comprised of filter, core, and armour stone, and it will be capped with a synthetic liner.
