Runway End Safety Areas at the Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport

The Greater Moncton International Airport Authority is proposing a project that will see the development of Runway End Safety Areas (RESAs) at the Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport.  The objectives of the RESAs are to improve safety of air travel by reducing the adverse consequences of runway undershoots and overruns.  The areas must also be developed to comply with requirements under Transport Canada's Aerodromes Standards and Recommended Practices (TP 312) 5th edition.

The RESAs will be constructed at the end of Runway 24, Runway 11 and Runway 29 and are designed to be 120-122 meters wide and 150 meters in length.  The project will also require an existing airside service road and a section of the perimeter fence to be relocated.  The overall disturbance area is expected to be approximately 75,000 square meters.   The project will include soil stripping and removal, importing of soil and granular materials, landscaping and fence work.
