Small Modular Reactor Demonstration Project

Énergie NB Power is proposing the construction and operation of a small modular reactor located on the existing Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station property, in Point Lepreau, New Brunswick. As proposed, the Small Modular Reactor Demonstration Project would include a sodium-cooled fast reactor that would generate electricity to supply the electrical grid (100 to 150 megawatts of electricity).

Latest update

October 4, 2022 — On July 4, 2022, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change received a request to designate the Small Modular Reactor Demonstration Project proposed by Énergie NB Power. The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada is conducting an analysis and will make a recommendation to the Minister on whether to designate the project under the Impact Assessment Act.
