Rehabilitate Heliport Pavements and Lighting System – CFB Gagetown

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing a project. The main component of the project includes the repair and reconstruction of concrete and asphalt pavement areas on the Heliport Apron at 5th Canadian Division Support Base (5CDSB) Gagetown. The heliport is currently used for parking/storage, takeoff, and landing of helicopters by 403 Helicopter Operational Training Squadron (Gagetown), as part of their normal operations. This work will also include upgrades to helipad lighting and stormwater infrastructure. For preparation of the construction work on the apron, a wooded area east of L37 will be cleared and grubbed to create a lay down and stockpile area. Depending on the stability of the ground after grubbing, the laydown area may require a layer of fill to create a level, stable surface for equipment and materials storage. The stockpile area will be prepared with an impermeable surface prior to placing stockpiles. Stockpiles will consist of clean imported base and subbase materials needed for the upgrade of the apron. Removal of any underlying till (native) material from underneath the apron base and subbase, is not anticipated. A small amount of material may be removed from the worksite during the upgrade and installation of the stormwater line and outfall near the west apron.
